Sleeping Cow Elk In The Smoky Mountains
The Great Smoky Mountains National Park's largest animal, Elk can weigh 700 pounds and reach 5 feet at the shoulder. In 2001 Elk were re-introduced in Cataloochee Valley, Great Smoky Mountain National Park. Elk can often be found near the Oconaluftee Visitors Center close to Cherokee N.C.
