Description
Loggerhead Sea Turtle Comes Up For Air.
This species is the largest hard-shelled turtle in the world. Named for its large head, which can be 10 inches wide, it has powerful jaws to crush the heavy-shelled clams, crabs and encrusting animals on which it feeds. During routine activity loggerhead sea turtles dive for about 4 to 5 minutes and surface to breathe for 1 to 3 seconds. Turtles can rest or sleep underwater for several hours at a time. Their life span averages 30-50 and even more.
