The Barred owl, also known as northern Barred Owl or Hoot Owl, is a true Owl native to eastern North America. Barred Owls are mottled brown and white overall, with dark brown, almost black, eyes.Their diet consists mainly of small mammals, but they are also known to prey upon other small animals such as birds, reptiles, and amphibians.The rich baritone hooting of the Barred Owl is a characteristic sound in southern swamps, where members of a pair often will call back and forth to each other.

The Owl has been known to live up to 24 years in the wild and 23 years in captivity.
