The Great Smoky Mountains National Park's largest animal, Elk can weigh 700 pounds and reach 5 feet at the shoulder. In 2001 Elk were re-introduced in Cataloochee Valley, Great Smoky Mountain National Park. Elk can often be found near the Oconaluftee Visitors Center close to Cherokee N.C.I photographed this mature Bull Elk mid morning resting during Autumn season in The Great Smoky Mountains.
